Abstract

In this paper, using the concept of game theory, we propose an attacker-defender (AD) model to investigate the vulnerability of a rail transportation network against malicious attacks. The idea emerged in this paper is rooted in the consequences (especially the traffic and transit operational consequences) of the terrorist attack on 17th Khordad, 1396, to the building of the Parliament of Iran and the closure of the station connected to it (i.e. Baharestan metro station). The purpose of this study is to provide a methodology for identifying the most critical metro station in a situation where there is no possibility of boarding or alighting passengers at that station. The model presented in this study is a two-stage optimization problem that is defined as a game between the attacker and the users. In this paper, after formulating the problem, a solution algorithm is devised to dealing with the problem. as result with this formulation the most likely station exposed to attack is identified.
