Abstract
Given the necessity of preserving historical values, cleaning the polluted environment of railway complexes, and integrating the railway landscape with the city, the aim of this research is to investigate the factors causing the destruction and abandonment of a large part of the landscape of the Tehran railway station area, the lack of cohesion and continuity of the complex with the surrounding urban landscape, and then to provide a conservation design based on a context-sensitive approach. The research is of a fundamental and descriptive-analytical type, and is based on extensive field studies and environmental surveys, the refinement and overlay of landscape-forming layers in a GIS system, the collection and examination of digital data, and a qualitative comparison and analysis of the current state of the landscape relative to the beginning of the complex's formation. In the present research, the factors causing the degradation of the station landscape were identified, and in the proposed plan, these include the relocation of industrial and repair centers outside the site, the repair of sheds, the restoration of buildings, the removal of industrial waste and debris, the cleaning of grounds, the separation of industrial spaces from architectural elements using vegetation, etc., with the aim of achieving the ecological sustainability of the site, landscape restoration, increased environmental security and efficiency, and finally the showcasing of the railway industry and its changes.
