Abstract
Nowadays, activity-based modeling has been considered in comparison with traditional four-stage models due to its many advantages. On the other hand, due to the importance of public transportation, the use of an activity-based approach for public transportation users in order to accurately examine user behavior has a special place. The present study seeks to apply a new activity-based approach to public transportation users. Therefore, in this study, a part of the activity-based submodels including the number of trips and the main trip activity in the daily pattern of public transportation users has been examined. Research data was collected through a field survey from 500 public transportation users in Tehran. To model the number of trips, an ordinal logit model (with a coefficient of determination of 0.408) was used, and to model the main trip activity (mandatory, optional, and maintenance) a multinomial logit model (with a coefficient of determination of 0.592) was used. This research shows that the combination of individual, occupational, and temporal variables play a decisive role in the daily activity-travel pattern of public transportation users and can help urban planners formulate more efficient policies.
