English

Transportation systems tend to be unstable and this instability affects the reliability indices of transportation systems. To improve reliability, control strategies can be used. One of the control strategies is holding the buses at the stops. In this study, the holding control strategy in all rolling horizon stops is used. Many researches have been done on the control strategy of the first holding strategy and its effect on the waiting time of passengers in the past. However, in this research, the holding control strategy at all stations of the rolling horizon (all holding) is used under the influence of overtaking conditions of buses, which was not investigated in previous researches. The scenario of the absence of overtaking conditions of buses and the scenario of the presence of overtaking conditions of buses are introduced and a separate mathematical model is presented for each. The mathematical model for each of the scenarios includes the objective function of the minimization type and the constraints related to each. In the presented mathematical model, the impact of the all holding control strategy under the influence of overtaking conditions on the waiting time of passengers inside the bus and inside the station has been investigated. In the following, a hypothetical example to solve the model and a case study on Tehran's BRT line 5 have been carried out,and sensitivity analysis has been carried out on some parameters of the model, such as the maximum bus capacity and the length of the rolling horizon. The results of the sensitivity analysis showed that by increasing the bus capacity and decreasing the length of the rolling horizon, the waiting time of passengers decreases. Also, for each of the scenarios, the holding time of the buses at each station was determined in order to minimize the waiting time of the passengers inside the bus and inside the station. The results of the case study and the hypothetical example show that the waiting time of passengers in the case where the control strategy is used is reduced by about 3% compared to the case without the control strategy.
