Journal Article 2018 05 04 Various parameters include personal or human behavioral factors, environmental factors, road geometry and vehicle characteristics causing traffic accidents. However there has been little empirical examination of the relationship between urban form and pedestrian accidents. Therefore, this study examined the effect of different urban form parameters on pedestrian crashes by considering city block, street network and land use for the city of Mashhad in Iran during time period of 3 years (1391-1393). To do so, we developed a geo_statistical database of crash incidence and urban form parameters. Required raster layers with 20 m pixel size, have been prepared in a spatial database containing 111,537 pixels. Finally the data were entered into SPSS software and modeling has been done. The results of the study indicate that with increasing distance from commercial land use, the number of pedestrian accidents decreases. In organic zones the higher number of accidents has been occurred than grid networks. Also larger blocks, indicated significantly lower pedestrian accident rates than the other block group acreages.
