This paper shows that besides personal attributes, trip purpose of the crowd does have an effect on the macroscopic characteristics of pedestrian traffic stream. In this research land use is used as a surrogate to trip purpose. Data was collected on pedestrian movements in religious ceremonies, leisure and shopping urban areas, and a university campus in Isfahan, Iran. Fundamental diagrams were calibrated for three land uses and it was found out that the most and least capacity belongs to the educational and leisure land uses, respectively. It was also found out that Greenberg model best fits the data for religious and leisure land uses. Traffic in educational land use was observed to have significant differences with two others in the way people interacted with each other. Values of capacity were compared to the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) values which revealed that HCM overestimates the capacity of walkways in religious and leisure land uses.
