Transportation networks are essential elements of daily life in modern societies. Road network disruption could seriously damage economic productivity of the society and make the human daily life very difficult. The role of bridges as part of the road network is very important with unique features. Bridges are critical transportation network infrastructures and closure of them makes some problems for transportation networks such as congested traffic, blockade etc. Therefore authorities and planners should assign significant budgets to repair and maintenance of bridges. Isfahan transportation network has many bridges and some of them are across the Zayenderood River. The aim of this study, is to prioritize Isfahan transportation network bridges from the view point of traffic function. The presented method determines the bridge importance based on the change in total travel time of the network. This method is surveyed for 87 bridges in Isfahan transportation network. The required information such as transportation network, travel demand matrix, volume – delay functions is obtained from comprehensive transportation study in Isfahan. The results show that most vital bridges are not necessarily bridges with the most traffic volume. In fact, the importance of a bridge rather be dependent on the traffic volume, is dependent to the number of alternative routes for traffic crossing in the time of its closure.
